Worcester Wanderers FC Achieves Impressive Season Sweep Over Maine Footy with Back-to-Back Victories

Over the span of one week, the Worcester Wanderers beat Maine Footy 2-1 on both occasions, completing the season sweep in the inaugural season in the UWS.

Matchup One: First Half Comeback Leads to 2-1 Win at Home

On Saturday May 23rd, The Wanderers hosted Maine Footy in the first home match in team history. After going down 0-1 midway through the first half due to a penalty kick for Footy, Wanderers were able to re-establish possessional dominance and find the back of the net quickly to tie up the match from a Waverly Sumner goal, fed by Ali Roche off a turnover.

Shortly after, a beautiful build up play down the left side of the pitch, led to Ali Roche slipping Maddi Berthoud through, who finished expertly in the bottom right corner of the goal to give Wanderers the 2-1.

The 2nd half saw a plethora of chances for Wanderers, but the Footy keeper stood tall to keep further goals from breaking through. Footy pushed hard in the last five minutes, but Anna Shamgochian came up with two big saves in the Wanderers net to solidify the first win in team history.
