Wanderers Win Streak Continues with 7-0 Thrashing on Saturday

Saturday June 6th brought the halfway mark of the 2026 UWS season, with Worcester Wanderers FC defeating Maine Mystics 7-0 at John Coughlin Memorial Stadium. The Wanderers are now 3-1 in their inaugural season and sit tied for first place in the division. Here’s how it happened!

Quick Start Helps Wanderers Get Ahead

As we hit June, the temperature has started to turn up and both teams had to deal with the heat and humidity for the first time this season. Wanderers came out with a much rotated starting eleven, but one that provided plenty of attacking threat. Early in the game, Nat Stouch found space on the left wing to serve a ball into the 6 yard box, where the Mystics keeper parried the ball right into the oncoming path of Cam Doyle who stroked in the finish to give Wanderers the 1-0 lead.

Plenty more chances came, but the Mystics defense stood tall until Waverly Sumner drove a ball low and hard in front of goal, leading to a Mystics defender finding their own net in an effort to clear. 2-0 Wanderers.

Halftime Tactical Tweaks Opens the Floodgates

Coach Greg Margolis pushed his team to adapt to Mystics chippy and gritty defending by adjusting the team shape and emphasizing a higher tempo of play. From the start of the second half, Wanderers would create chance after chance and open up the scoring further.

Selene Hammad would score off a service from Waverly Sumner in the 50th minute. Six minutes later, Waverly Sumner would find the back of the net herself, assisted by Taylor deVos. The last fifteen minutes then brought three more goals for the Wanderers, Nat Stouch from Cam Doyle in the 75th, Nat Stouch again unassisted in the 80th and Selene Hammad would cap off the match with her 89th minute goal, assisted by Nat Stouch.

This was the Wanderers first ever shutout as well, with neither keeper (Sophia Kling starting the match and Claudia Keith entering in the second half) having to make a single save all game due to the incredible work on the defense through the 90 minutes.

Worcester Wanderers FC are back in action on Thursday June 11th at 6pm at John Coughlin Memorial Stadium, where the faceoff against New England Mutiny in a battle of the top two seeds in the division.
